SWAN RIVER VALLEY, NEAR GUILFORD, MIDLAND, PERTH WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Swan Valley, Western Australia From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Swan Valley is the area between Midland and Upper Swan through which the Swan River flows. It is bordered to the east by the Darling Scarp. It was explored very early in the time of first European Settlement – known as the Swan River Colony, and several of the ‘original families’ still have real estate in the valley. Whilst many of the older wineries were started by immigrants from countries with long traditions of wine-making, the majority of them are now owned by large companies, often multi-nationals. The valley is notable for its highly fertile soil (uncommon in Western Australia), numerous wineries, several microbreweries. There are numerous locations for day-trippers and tourists to seek out. There is an annual ‘Spring in the Valley’ weekend which seeks to increase tourism into the area.

Wine suggestion?

March 26th, 2010

Posted by admin in australian wine making | 13 Comments »

I need to buy an extra nice bottle of red wine for a dear friend. He loves good California Zinfandels and Australian Shiraz. There are so many to choose from. Can anyone make a suggestion. My price range is up to $50

We live in northern California and one of the things we love to do is go to wineries. We live less than one hour from Napa valley. I have also been the Origin wine country and know some of these wines. Australia wines are good, but we have so much California in our cellar.

California Zinfandel you have a lot of choices. Here is a small list of stuff we know :

A.Rafanelli – They are in the Dry Creek and have been producing top quality Zinfandel for years. They are famous for their zin. Unfortunate, I have seen shop owners mark it up a lot. We can get them for $32.00. We order direct.

Elyse – Napa. They do a good job on zins.

Mauritson – In the Dry Creek Valley

Rosenblum – They do a lot of different zinfandels. You should be able to find these wines.

I drink red wine with dinner a few times a week? Is it really beneficial and and anti-aging?

March 23rd, 2010

Posted by admin in australian wine making | 3 Comments »

I am a 21 year old boy (I look 6-7 years younger), I am 5′7", 105 lbs. I drink Australian Red Wine and other Red Wines (I rarely ever drink anything else like beer or liquor, etc., ONLY red wine), the other drinks I know age you, but Red Wine contains an antioxidant called Resveratrol. I drink red wine about 3 times a week, usually when my mom makes spaghetti or pasta or vegetables, etc. for dinner. I am a vegetarian. I eat light and only healthy foods. I am aware that it [Red Wine] has the resveratrol that has anti-aging properties, and can slow down cellular aging. Is this, the Red Wine, the only exception in alcohol (wine) that is OK to drink one glass a few times a week to avoid aging? Is this the only exception in alcohol that WILL NOT progress aging as opposed to other alcohol drinks like beer, whiskey, vodka, etc.? Is this a good idea to incorporate 1 glass of Red Wine with my dinner 3 times a week or so?

Also, so when I am 80, will I look much younger and still have my fountain of youth?

The resveratrol is all the RAGE right now, and while you’ll get a little bit in red wine, you’ll never notice the effects

Check out the video in the link below to find out your answer!

What should I know to order myself a glass of wine a restaurant?

March 20th, 2010

Posted by admin in australian wine making | 3 Comments »

If I want an Australian Shiraz is that all that I need to say? I am just thinking that they may have another question after this that I might not know how to answer. What if they have more than one kind of Australian Shiraz? Will I have to decipher which one I want?

Just don’t want to make an a$$ of myself : )

Usually the wine list will mention the country of origin and the type of wine. If you just ask for the shiraz, they will know which your talking about. If they have more than one type of Australian shiraz, going for the cheapest one they have will be fine. Personally I really enjoy the Yellowtail shiraz.
