Does Anyone Really Like Australian Wine??

March 14th, 2010

I work in the wine industry in Oz and we keep getting told that Aust wine is very fashionable in the US and Canada.

Is this true? What are your favourite wines styles and wine regions from Aust? Did you know NZ makes great wine too?
Smeghead. I will tell you this only once. That comment about the armpit was particularly offensive. Particularly since my Grandmother was a Warradjiri woman. That means an aboriginal woman from Central NSW.

Smeghead indeed!
I am so pleased that you like it. Shiraz from the Hunter Valley in NSW is superb. Pendarves Estate and Rosemount are standouts as is Penfolds.
Try the cool climate reds from the Great South West in WA. Cabernat Sauvignons to die for. Their whites are tremendous too if you like a real zest of passionfruit. Sav Blancs and wooded chardonnay from the Adelaide Hills are hard to beat. McLaren Vale and The Barossa are simply one big winery and very little that comes out of there is anything but good to superb.
Happy Drinking (in moderation of course) to you all!
But I have to tell you we can buy Banrock Station shiraz and merlot 2 lires for$14 Aus. ($11.00 US? approx). You should visit.

I buy Australian wine only. Tried and tested and never fails me. But then I know which ones are decent and which ones are cheap and nasty.

Australian Wine Trail Region Western Australia

March 14th, 2010

Although Australia was a late starter in the fine wine field this country makes some of the greatest, most exciting and ridiculously good value wine in the world. Set against a scenic background, the AUSSIE WINE TRAIL is a 14 part half hour series. Filmed in High Definition this series takes in most of Australia’s established and several significant newly emerging wine districts from South Australia’s Barossa Valley to Queensland’s Granite Belt, from the Hunter Valley near Sydney to the Margaret River district in Western Australia. The AUSSIE WINE TRAIL presents a tremendously wide range of this country’s wines, their history, location and their behind the scene winemaker.

The first vines were planted in Western Australia in the Swan Valley, near Perth in 1829 by Thomas Waters. Today it is home of the States largest winery, Houghton. Talyancich Wines, also with a long history, produce outstanding fortified wines in the European tradition. We take in the newly created Geographe district, the wines of Capel Vale and in the Pemberton district and the French style wines of Picardy Estate. Margaret River, further south, and much publicized since the early 1970s is represented by several famous international names Cullen Wines, Leeuwin Estate and Mad Fish Wines.

Where can I order a good Australian dessert wine?

March 11th, 2010

Posted by admin in australian wine regions | 3 Comments »

I’m looking to give a friend a bottle of Australian dessert wine as a thank you (he traveled there about 2 years ago and really like the wines there.) Does anyone know where I can order some- Preferably from the Hunter Valley region.

There are some wonderful Australian Ports available at Beverages and More.

If you have a specific wine in mind that you can’t locate, try http://www.wine-searcher.com

Good luck!
