Wine Out Of Date?

March 17th, 2010

I have 2 bottles of White Australian wine, 1 is dated 2002 and the other is 2003. Is it safe to drink these? I’m new to the whole wine tasting community.
Can’t see any expiry date on the bottles

It’s safe, but red wines get better with age, whites tend not to. It won’t taste as good as it may have in 2004-2005. Whites and even blush wines only have a 2-3 period where they are at their peak after being bottled.

If it were red it would be considered young and may not taste as good now as it might in 10 years!

But it is safe, it doesn’t spoil. See what you think of it. Wine tasting is a matter of opinion. Often times, I think the expensive ones are worse than cheap ones or newer ones better than older.

Also, there are other factors such as whether you serve it chilled or let it sit out (poured into a glass) before tasting.

Wine Tasting 40: Benjamin Port fm Mildara Blass, Australia

March 16th, 2010

The is a bargain as it’s selling in the US for about $12-14 bucks but we have to pay more here at approx Cad$24 and as far as I know available only from private stores. When it comes to port we think of Portugal but the Aussies are surely making much port style wines from their own grapes. The NV Tawny port comes with a brown amber colour and smells of the typical raisin, caramel, sweet fig, ripe prune but here I detected cola. More coffee and caramel fruit comes out upon tasting. The body is medium by port standard and overall although not an outstanding port, it does have it’s fair show of structure. This is a steal for the price. Hey we can’t always afford vintage port first for their higher prices but most practically wait for it to age…so in the meantime drink tons of these while wait for the VP to mature! (Rating 87-89 points) by Michael Lam the Beverage Review.

A Shiraz wine.
I have had it just once at a tasting and recall it being quite nice as are many Aussie wines. The best thing i can tell you is it should be worth the expense to buy and try it for yourself. This is the best way to know if it is in fact a good wine.

Nice words from those in the know.

The Little Penguin Wine?

March 11th, 2010

Posted by admin in australian wine tasting | 3 Comments »

Does anyone know where this company gets their grapes? The boast the name of Australian wine and I’m needing to create a wine tasting revolving around the South Australian growing region.

http://www.thelittlepenguin.com/home.html
Along the South Eastern coast of Australia, the Little Penguin has long been the keeper of high spirits and camaraderie. And now he’s coming to America with his fantastic and fun wines in tow. And who better for this job? After all, the penguin may be little, but these delectable new Australian wines are as big and flavorful as they come.

Also check out Yalumba wines- the ‘Y’ series isn’t to pricey but they are great wines as good as Wolf Blass before Wolfie retired.
The Viongier is an amazing white varietal that is full bodied great fruit and fat mouth feel. It’s also not so well known and you may get top marks for introducing a great winemaker and a new varietal.

Australian Wine: Differents between Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon?

March 11th, 2010

Posted by admin in australian wine tasting | 4 Comments »

Which one taste sweeter?more velvety?smoother?Fuller body?Spicier? And the characteristics of the 2? Thanks.

Australian Shiraz is quite a significant symbol of the new world wines. I suggest you have a try, rather than Cab.s because Cab.s can grow everywhere, but Australian Shiraz is quite special, among others.

The taste notes of these 2 varieties can be described as below:

Shiraz: Deep colour, Strong, full body, taste of peper , spicy.
Australian Cab.S: Deep ruby, Strong, full – midium body, taste of blackberry, chacolate…tannic.
